Welcome to the Nerd-atory: Introduction to the Blog!
Hello fine people of the internet!
My name is Professor Stein, and at the time of writing this, I am a master's student exploring instructional systems and learning technologies with one simple goal: combine entertainment with education to make learning fun and relatable.
I know, I know, there is no universal solution for making education "fun" as everyone has their own ways of receiving enjoyment. So rather than focus on what I can do to make education fun for everyone, I want to explore how education could have been introduced to ME to make it more fun. What better way to do that than by relating it to topics that pique my own interest: ALL THINGS NERDY!
With that in mind, I hope that the readers of this blog can find similar topics of interest with me as I explore education in non-conventional settings related to nerdy content. Now with that out of the way, I can disclose the true purpose of this blog: to track and maintain my thoughts, ideas, and experiences as I learn about how to educate through Web 2.0 platforms and applications, specifically relating it to my own projects and interests.
This is a requirement for the course EME6414, which is a course focused on doing just that. So sit back, relax, and come with me on my journey as we explore how instruction can be introduced through social media, and how we can tailor it to better suit our own nerdy interests...
Afternote:
I confess, one of my main interests with social media as a method to share instructional content is due to a side hobby/hustle of mine: Pokémon card vending and content creation. Every week, I am asked multiple questions related to this hobby, and as an instructional designer and content creator, what better way to teach the masses than through social media? This persona has been created for this exact reason, but why stop at just Pokémon? To help give a better sense of my topics of interests, I have provided a list. Hopefully, dear readers, we can find some overlap:
- Sci-Fi: Primarily Star Wars, Dune, Dr. Who, etc.
- Fantasy: Lord of the Rings, Stormlight Archives, DND, etc.
- Trading Card Games: Pokémon and Magic the Gathering
- Video Games: Elder Scrolls, Halo, World of Warcraft, Minecraft, etc.
- General Sciences
- Gamification
- Design: Videos, animations, 3d modeling, photography, art, etc.
- Plus much, much more
